Striking red calcite rough stones from our collection of rocks and minerals.
The deep reddish-brown colour is believed to come from impurities of iron oxides.
Calcite is a relatively soft and fragile mineral so decorative material tends to be coated with a fine layer of colourless resin. This offers some protection against flaking and crumbling.
The stones have a vitreous lustre because the resin reflects light.
