Large Rhodochrosite | Kalahari Manganese Field
Spectacular rhodochrosite botryoidal crystals on matrix. This piece comes from the Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa.
Weighing in at just over 2 kilos, this mineral was chosen for our collection whilst at one of our suppliers who had just returned from a field trip to the Kalahari Manganese Field in the Northern Cape.
This area sits in well preserved sedimentary rocks over 2.2 billion years old. One of the geological wonders of the world, it's the largest land based manganese deposit on Earth. Rhodochrosite was found there in 1963.
