Free-Standing Blue Chalcedony
This large chunky stone has been lightly polished and is visibly translucent towards the top. There's some minor damage around the edges but otherwise it's in excellent condition.
The colour has not been treated or enhanced as far as we are aware. A considerable amount of blue chalcedony being sold commercially is dyed.
Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline variety of quartz. In its purest form it's usually white or grey, a subtle shade of blue or even brown.
Stones often feature microscopic inclusions of other minerals. These impurities are usually responsible for the change in colour.
