Lapis Lazuli Miniature Spheres
These finely polished lapis lazuli spheres have a silky-smooth texture and reflect light beautifully.
Most of the world's lapis lazuli comes from Badakhshan Province in northeast Afghanistan.
The area, known as Sar-e Sang, is a remote region high up in the Hindu Kush mountains. Lapis lazuli has been mined here for more than 6,000 years.
Lapis lazuli, which is a metamorphic rock, is composed of several different minerals. Its distinctive blue colour comes from the mineral lazurite. Golden specks of pyrite and white calcite are also common.
These miniature lapis lazuli spheres were cut and polished in South Africa.
Each sphere comes with a polished hematite ring, which makes an ideal stand.
