Jasper Gemstones Grade A Cabochons
Four finely polished jasper cabochons from our collection of rocks and minerals.
Available to buy individually or as a set.
The first stone on the left is bumblebee jasper. This relatively rare material from Indonesia is actually calcite.
The next stone is scenic jasper. Scenic jasper which is similar to picture jasper is a type of mudstone.
The black and white stone is zebra jasper from Rajasthan (India). Zebra jasper is a type of marble. A similar looking stone can also be found in the USA but it's believed to have a slightly different chemical composition.
The cabochon on the far right is polychrome jasper also known as desert jasper. To date it has only been found in Madagascar.
Many stones are given trade names to boost popularity. The problem with this from a geological perspective is that many are misleading or inaccurate.
The scenic jasper cabochon has been fully polished. The other three stones have been polished on just one side. The polished surface exhibits a vitreous lustre whereas the unpolished side of the stone has a dull lustre.
