Amethyst Cut Base - Freestanding
This amethyst cut base shows deep purple crystals which reflect light beautifully. The crystals' 'sparkle' is best appreciated under dimmed light.
Cut base is a term used in retail to describe a section taken from an amethyst geode. The base is then sawn flat and smoothed so that the piece sits upright.
A geode is the whole (or halved) hollow rock: a rounded cavity, usually in basalt in the case of Brazilian and Uruguayan amethyst, lined with crystals.
To minimise fading of its purple colour, amethyst should be positioned away from direct sunlight.
The cut base can be rinsed if necessary to remove dust. Allow the stone and crystals to dry naturally.
