Polished Tigers Eye Mineral
Polished tigers eye from South Africa, nicely chatoyant on both sides of the stone. Chatoyance is an optical phenomenon that can be seen in certain minerals but is best known for being present in chrysoberyl and tigers eye.
Also known as tiger eye, this distinctive stone is an old time favourite in the world of rocks and minerals and most of the world's supply comes from South Africa and Western Australia. A variety of the mineral quartz, it's used mostly as a lapidary material and whilst the brown and yellow coloured stone is easily recognised, black and red varieties are produced through the application of heat. Black tigers eye is particularly distinctive and retains its chatoyant qualities but the red variety which is not quite as popular does not exhibit chatoyance.
This tigers eye stone is a lovely piece that's sure to be appreciated by anyone who loves polished rocks and minerals.
