Cluster of smoky quartz points rising up from a bed of rock matrix. Some of the points are quite small so you'll have to look closely to find them. Three or possibly four of the smaller quartz points have broken off low down but from their appearance we estimate that to have happened naturally many many years ago. Along with the well formed smoky quartz points which can clearly be seen in our photo, others which are not visible have intergrown with adjacent points.
Crystal clusters are not uncommon in quartz and formations can vary in size from tiny to gigantic.
All of the smoky quartz points in this cluster are translucent and exhibit a vitreous lustre.
