Rough Chrysocolla Mineral
Rough chrysocolla from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This colourful mineral can be found in a number of locations worldwide including England but only in Cornwall. Although popular as a lapidary material it's soft and fragile hence must be handled with care. On Mohs scale of mineral hardness chrysocolla grades 2½ - 3½.
Several other minerals including turquoise, malachite, azurite and quartz occur with chrysocolla and the more quartz that's present the harder the stone is likely to be.
This piece of chrysocolla attracted our attention because of its impressive cyan blue colour. It's one of the very few rough pieces of this mineral that we currently have in our collection.
