Large rhodochrosite rock weighing in at over two kilos and featuring impressive pink coloured crystals. Mined in the Kalahari Manganese Field Northern Cape South Africa.
This piece ended up in our hands following a visit to one of our suppliers in South Africa and although we were looking for something completely different, we were drawn to the size and colour of this stone as soon as we saw it. Having literally just returned from a mining trip to the Kalahari Manganese Field our supplier could not wait to show it to us.
The Kalahari Manganese Field sits in well preserved sedimentary rocks that are over 2.2 billion years old. It is without doubt one of the geological wonders of the world. One of the largest known manganese deposits on Earth, the area was made famous when rhodochrosite was found there in 1963.
