Small but chunky ladies chalcedony pendant featuring a subtle blue coloured, translucent gemstone. Hand crafted in a fine sterling silver setting, this pretty stone has a silky smooth glass-like texture which in the world of mineralogy is correctly described as a vitreous lustre.
Chalcedony is a type of quartz that's microcrystalline in nature which means its crystals are far too small to be seen with the naked eye and can only be seen under a microscope. Impurities of other natural minerals which occur during the stone's formation cause a wide variety of different colours.
Correctly pronouned kal SED uh nee, this is a relatively hard stone which grades 7 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Being porous means that stones which lack vibrant or distinctive colour often end up being dyed hence much of the chalcedony that you see in items of jewellery have a distinctive pink or blue colour which is deemed to be more appealing to the wider commercial market. That said, at Stone Mania we generally try to avoid choosing gemstones for our collection which have been artificially coloured using dyes and whilst this chalcedony cabochon may have been heat treated we don't believe it to have been dyed.
The reason for this chalcedony pendant being added to our Bargain Basement is because the bale at the top has not been correctly centred. Although only noticeable if you look carefully, we have decided to add it to our Bargain Basement instead of having it re-made. In the unlikely event that you should you not be entirely satisfied with your purchase, it may be returned for a full refund (T&C's apply).
