Angelite is a baby blue coloured gemstone that's a variety of the mineral anhydrate. Although it can be found in different colours and in several countries around the world, only the blue coloured material is recognised as angelite.
Anhydrate is a form of calcium sulphate which occurs naturally in both an anhydrous (without water) and hydrated (with water) form. The hydrated variety of is better known as gypsum which is the main ingredient of plaster and plaster of Paris. When mixed with water gypsum hardens because of the process of crystallisation. The name anhydrate comes from the Greek word anhydrous meaning without water.
Angelite is popular as a lapidary material and is often carved into figurines but in particular angels because in the metaphysical world, the stone is considered to be an angelic crystal which can help one communicate on a higher realm. It's a calming stone which is often used in conjunction with meditation because it can enhance and deepen the meditative state. The vast majority of angelite which is available for sale in the UK comes from Peru.
This is one of only a small number of angelite pendants that we currently have available in our collection. It features a distinctive blue coloured stone crafted in an elegant sterling silver setting. The surface of this angelite cabochon does have some minor scuff-like marks which could be seen as scratches however we believe they are natural markings that would not have polished out. Having said that, we have however decided to offer this angelite pendant at a slightly reduced price.
