Amethyst Necklace

This chunky Amethyst necklace features deep purple coloured gemstones all of which have been faceted into briolettes.  As it picks up the light, it really comes alive and is sure to attract plenty of attention.  It fastens with a simple sterling silver T bar and has been made entirely by hand.  

The birthstone for the month of February and the anniversary gemstone for the sixth year of marriage, Amethyst is best known for its rich purple colour which is caused by impurities of Iron or Manganese.  It has been in great demand throughout history especially for use in jewellery and some of the finest examples have been included in royal collections from Ancient Egypt to the British Crown Jewels.  It is the most highly prized variety of the mineral Quartz.
