Vanadium is a chemical element which is a metal mostly used in steel where it helps strengthen the steel metal.
It is believed that the human body may require Vanadium although scientists are not completely sure but there is a small amount of it in many vitamins just in case our body's do need it.
Vanadium can react with a variety of other elements and the chemical compounds that it forms often have beautiful colours. The precious gemstone known as Emerald which is part of the Beryl group of minerals gets its colour from trace amounts of Chromium and Vanadium.
