Mica

Mica is a variety of mineral which can take many different forms.  The word is believed to come from the Latin meaning "to glitter" in reference to its brilliant lustre.

As of 2005, the Kodarma district in the Jharkhand state in India had the largest deposits of Mica in the world.  Its use by humans dates back to pre-historic times and it was known to Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Chinese civilizations as well as the Aztecs.

The earliest use of Mica has been found in cave paintings created during the Upper Paleolithic period (40,000 BC to 10,000 BC).
