Mesopotamia

mesopotamia

Mesopotamia is a Greek word meaning 'b

etween the rivers', the rivers being the Tigris and Euphrates which flow through modern day Iraq.  The Euphrates also flows through much of Syria.

Mesopotamia largely corresponds to what is today, Iraq, parts of Northeastern Syria, some parts of Southeastern Turkey and also the Khūzestān Province of Southwestern Iran.

Bronze Age Mesopotamia included Sumer, a civilization and historical region in Southern Mesopotamia [Iraq].  It is the earliest known civilization in the world and is known as the "Cradle of Civilization".  The Sumerian civilization spanned over 3000 years.  Sumer was the birthplace of writing, the wheel, agriculture, the arch, the plow, irrigation and many other things.
