An amulet, from the Latin amuletum meaning 'an object that protects a person from trouble', is an item intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner. Amulet is closely related to 'talisman' which comes from Arabic 'tilasm but ultimately from Greek 'telesma' or from the Greek word 'telein' meaning 'to initiate into the mysteries'
