Phosphosiderite has the most amazing Orchid colour and gemstones can sometimes also feature yellow veins.  The finest grade gemstones currently come from Chile and it is a perfect choice for use in jewellery.

Phosphosiderite is a naturally occurring form of iron phosphate, it has also been known as Metastrengite although this term is now virtually obsolete.

Phosphosiderite is composed of phosphorous and iron oxide hence its name, the first syllable PHOSPHO from phosphorous and the second from the Greek 'SIDERos' meaning 'iron'.

Phosphosiderite has been found in Germany, USA, Portugal, Chile and Argentina.

With regards to its metaphysical properties and crystal healing, although we have found very little specific information relating directly to Phosphosiderite, we have found information on Phosphorite to which it's closely related.  Phosphorite is said to have been used to stimulate past life memories allowing one to gain information regarding both good and bad times without having to re experience the emotion associated with them.  It can smooth the temperament to bring a joyful feeling and decrease and transmute anger.  It has also been used for the treatment of disorders of the skin and to strengthen the hair.

Phosphosiderite is a colourful and fascinating material which is known to be quite brittle.  Being graded 3.5 to 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness means it must be treated with care.
