Tiffany Stone is known by a number of different names including Bertrandite which is a misnomer because that is a mineral in its own right, Opalized Fluorite which is the most accurate and among others, Ice Cream Opal. The most popular use for Tiffany Stone is as a gemstone which is mainly used in jewellery and due to its rarity, pieces can be quite expensive.
The fact that it is mined exclusively in one location worldwide (the Brush-Wellman Beryllium mine in the western deserts of Utah in the USA) is enough to make Tiffany Stone rare, but what makes it even rarer is the fact that most of what is mined, ends up being crushed as part of the beryllium extraction process so very little escapes to go on to be polished.
In crystal healing Tiffany Stone is said to be a highly energetic but subtle gemstone which helps with communication and interpretation of psychically received information of all kinds, including telepathic and clairvoyance. Its name came about commercially because it can resemble some of the patterns found in Tiffany glass. There are no other other direct connections with the company known as Tiffany & Co except that it was the founder's son, Louis Comfort Tiffany who was the decorative glass and lamp designer famous for his stained glass windows and lamps.
Tiffany Stone is most commonly patterned with purples, lilacs, blacks and whites, however occasionally it can also be found with a range of more diverse colours as well.
It is graded 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
