Phosphosiderite 1.jpgPhosphosiderite is a magnificent orchid coloured gemstone which is quite new in the gemstone world. Although phosphosiderite is available in jewellery, pieces are few and far between and good quality stones are extremely difficult to find.

Phosphosiderite is a naturally occurring form of iron phosphate.

The mineral phosphosiderite is also known as metastrengite although this term is now virtually obsolete.

Phosphosiderite is composed of phosphorous and iron oxide and this is from where its name was derived, the first syllable PHOSPHO from phosphorous and the second from the Greek 'SIDERos' meaning 'iron'.

Phosphosiderite is naturally purple in colour and is found predominantly in Germany, USA, Portugal, Chile and Argentina.

With regards to crystal healing, although we can find nothing on phosphosiderite, we have found information on phosphorite to which phosphosiderite is closely related.  This is said to have been used to stimulate past life memories allowing one to gain information regarding both good and bad times without having to re experience the emotion associated with them. It can smooth the temperament to bring a joyful feeling and decrease and transmute anger. Phosphorite is also used for the treatment of disorders of the skin and to strengthen the hair.

Phosphosiderite is a colourful and fascinating gemstone and one which few are yet familiar with.

Phosphosiderite is graded 3.5 to 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
