Bronzite is a variety of the mineral known as enstatite.  To be considered as bronzite, the enstatite must be weathered by the atmosphere, have a submetallic (intermediate between metallic and non-metallic) lustre and be bronze in colour.

Good quality bronzite exhibits an optical effect known as chatoyancy, this is most commonly seen in the gemstone tiger's eye.  Chatoyancy can be compared to the effect seen when looking at the sheen on a spool of silk.  This is caused as light is reflected from the inside of the gemstone and the fact that bronzite has a high iron content makes this even more prominent.

Bronzite is mainly found in India, Austria, South Africa, England, Labrador, Greenland, Norway, Sweden and in several areas of the USA.

There is little mention in history about bronzite although it is believed that the Romans used to grind it into powder form to use as protection against mental illness and confusion and also as a treatment to strengthen the nerves.  Today in crystal healingbronzite is said to be a stone of courtesy and assistance and allows the wearer to be of service to the greater good.  Bronzite promotes correct or principled behaviour and will also assist in powering through difficult tasks.

Sleeping with a piece of bronzite may be difficult as its vibrant energies are excellent for the intense demands and pressures of today's society but not for restful sleep.  It is also said to give one the ability to see the whole picture.

Bronzite is useful for those dealing with the public as it will promote courtesy and ensure one remains polite even in the most challenging of circumstances!

This is a strong and forthright gemstone which will insist tasks are seen through to completion.  It is said that it will help dispel restlessness and assist with being more certain about oneself hence enabling you to take control of actions and decisions without being obstinate or single minded about it.  Bronzite allows one to think ahead.

Bronzite is graded 5 to 6 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
