Angelite.jpgAngelite is the name for lilac coloured Anhydrate rock which is a form of calcium sulfate which contains no water in its crystal structure.  The name comes from the Greek 'anhydros' meaning 'waterless'.

Anhydrate rock occurs in several colours including white, grey, blue, pink and red, but only the lavender colour is known as angelite.

Angelite is a protective gemstone which is believed by healers to enhance telepathy, dispel anger and treat inflammation.  It is also said to be excellent for throat problems and balancing the thyroid.   Angelite It is believed to be a master all round healer and helps to ease anxiety and stress.  It forms a protective field around the environment in which it is placed.

On a physical level, angelite helps with stomach ulcers, sunburn, the repair of tissue and blood vessels, balancing body fluids and as an aid for weight loss.

Anhydrite rock was used in ancient Egypt for carved objects and vessels, many of which were in the shape of animals.

Angelite is a soft and brittle gemstone so when used in jewellery, it must be treated with great care.  It can be found in various locations around the world including Germany, Poland, Canada, the USA, Peru and Mexico.

Angelite is graded 3.5 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
